Editorial policy

EDITORIAL STANDARDS

The Institute exists to make the record clearer—not to amplify certainty beyond what the evidence supports.

PUBLIC COMMITMENTS

Source hierarchy

The earliest traceable source, contemporaneous records, institutional documents, and attributable scholarship receive priority over untraceable repetition.

Fact and account

A historical account is not presented as a verified fact merely because it has been widely repeated.

Narrative reconstruction

Reconstruction is editorial interpretation and is explicitly labelled as such.

Images and rights

Image provenance, public-domain status, licences and rights notes are documented wherever possible.

AI-assisted work

AI-assisted production or research may be used where appropriate, but human editorial responsibility, source review and final judgement remain explicit.

Corrections

Readers may submit factual corrections and rights concerns with supporting material; significant changes are recorded.

RELIGIOUS BELIEF, DEATH AND PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS

The Institute distinguishes archival analysis from judgement on faith. Cases involving death, trauma or non-public individuals are handled with an emphasis on accuracy, dignity and harm reduction. Details that do not materially clarify a record are not included for atmosphere.
